Wrotham School – New ICT suite

An overview….

Wrotham School serves the community around Wrotham and the Borough Green Areas with a role in excess of 700. With a significant reputation for cross curricular achievement ICT has been at the fore front of the School development plan. This fact coupled with the recent achievement of Humanities Special Status, the first school to gain this accreditation in Kent, further development has been possible of an additional ICT suite.

The project….

To take a blank canvas classroom, integrate it into the IT network of the school, and provide both data and power cabling within bespoke desking units constructed with an educational environment in mind

Within any school environment the understanding of an educational network is of fundamental importance. In this case adding a Gigabit connection back to the core of the network was required so as to ensure that the addition of this suite of computers (30) did not have a detrimental effect on the overall network speed. To this end a new cabinet location was created with a UTP Gigabit connection back to the Core switch.

Working in conjunction with the Instacomm Benching Contractor a seamless installation takes place, offering bespoke furniture design, specifically manufactured and installed with an educational environment in mind. All services are installed beneath the desk so as to give a clean and clutter free working space.

Over the course of a 4 day period the room was transformed into a functional ICT suite, housing 30 computers supplied via a new Data cabinet and suitable electrical consumer unit all installed under the guidelines as laid down by the NIC/EIC.

End to end solution – from Wrotham Schools wishes on the “look” and “layout” required, through the design and planning phase to the end result installed around the normal school working day…
